I agree with Cathryn elf is a very nice line of makeup and all makeup products are 1 dollar. It is a very good price for such high quality makeup. Some of the funds go to charity. Urban Decay is a great makeup line that isn't too expensive. MAC is probably the best, a bit pricey but well worth it. It lasts long and has great products.
Ulta has their store brand that is good. Otherwise, if you want to invest in great make up , save up a little and try the Bare Minerals line. It is powdered make-up and it is amazng. The Bare Minerals is available at Ulta and also they have their own stores in some malls.
the makeup i really like is ';bare minerals.'; it's only sold online, as far i i know... cheapest on ebay. as far as makeup goes though, i think you can't go too cheap, or you can tell by the wear %26amp; whether it lasts.

I'm not sure where you are, but Ulta is a great store for cosmetics, and they carry a nice price range of products. I'm in Chicagoland, and there are many here, but when I lived in Florida, I never saw the chain.

I've got really sensitive skin and I have recently started using Bare Minerals and I love it. It's all natural, so it's healthy for your skin. It doesn't make me break out like Cover Girl or Maybeline or those other lines used to because it doesn't have any greasy components. And it's not too expensive. Although it is sold at higher end stores than CVS or Rite-Aid, it's not as expensive as, say, Clinique, and it's well worth the money.

Would like makeup consultation that won't try to sell me the most expensive products but wot genuinely suits?
i need to find out what works for me cosmetics wise but i am a student and can't afford to go somewhere where the primary interest is just to get me to spend as much money as possible. Can you recommend anywhere that will give me honest makeup advice, take on board the fact that I'm a student and that has integrity? thanksWould like makeup consultation that won't try to sell me the most expensive products but wot genuinely suits?
If your a student, does your college/uni not a some kind of make up course. If so go to them. I don't mean, the beginners. I mean the 1's with a bit more experience. When I was at college, I had my hair done, manicure, pedicure and facials to name but a few done, for nothing for a few yrs. As for going to a make up, they will only, sell their own brand and don't normal tell you what's afford.Would like makeup consultation that won't try to sell me the most expensive products but wot genuinely suits?

Just get liquid glycerine and mix 1 parts glycerine to 3 parts water. It'll help your shadows go on more vibrant and last longer. Use a good eyeshadow primer also :)

So if you need cosmetics on a budget or just want to save your money for that killer handbag, then don't pay for a brand's package. I don't know about you but I have better things to spend my money on than a company's cardboard.
Plus, they would get sued if they sold products from a brand and it was fake. That is so ridiculous!

As an employee of the Origins counter at Macys I will say that no matter what day it is we ALWAYS push our products. You have to understand that we get commisionof of our sales. Salary starts at 9 an hour, not verymuch when youre living onyour own, commision is 5% of all sale that week. So when someone comes in for a makeover, its kind of an unspoken rule that the customer should buy at least one product that we used. It makes sense though because why wouldnt you want to create the fabulous look your make up artist has created for you? I know that when I finish a makeover i have a real sense of accomplishment if I can get that person to buy at least half the product that I have used. Keep in mind also that while your sitting in that chair the make up artist is giving you their time and attention to bring out your most beautiful features as well as trying to teach you something about makeup, so in return the best way to say thank you is to at least but 2 items they have used and listen to their advice. All that being said, it is ALWAYS a hard sell, but if you feel you are being pushed to hard or the make up artist is being nasty with you ask for someone else or say ';Ill have to walk around and see how this feels on me before i decide I will be back though'; and go back another time.Do the makeup artists at the Macy's makeup counters give a hard sell or a soft sell during makeovers?

Clearly it is a hard sell. They are not going to use their expensive products on you to have you walk away not having bought anything, especially at the high-end counters with better makeup like MAC.
I've only had one, but the girl kept raving how this whole regime made my skin glow and how I looked ';vibrant'; and ';radiant' and she kept flourishing the mirror at me so I could admire her work. Even though I told her that I like the natural look, she went for the ';glam'; look she had in mind and then told me that I should have some of her products in my arsenal for ';those special times.'; When I told her I wanted to show my husband my new look before I decided what to buy she told me maybe I should just take the blusher to ';touch up the look'; to convince him.

I got my makeup done (it was awesome!) and just bought one item since i am a regular MAC customer and didnt see anything else i needed... i only paid $25ish dollars... i think they say that just so you dont assume they dont always do it for free... man if they did... id be there every friday night...hehe... =)

It is absurd to think that the make up in drugstores is better because it is in the newer packaging. Plus you can use coupons in dollar stores. So if you have a coupon for any Maybelline product, then you could take it to the dollar store and get something like mascara for almost free.
Most make up isn't on expiration time until it is opened. It's not bread or milk. So if you need cosmetics on a budget or just want to save your money for that killer handbag, then don't pay for a brand's package. I don't know about you but I have better things to spend my money on than a company's cardboard.
Plus, they would get sued if they sold products from a brand and it was fake. That is so ridiculous!
And in blind tests, over 90% of women could not tell the difference from low end and high end make up. What does that tell you? A fool and her money are soon parted! lol
I have probably 30 mascaras, no lie. Some have cost $50 and some have cost $8. I just recently bought Maybelline's Stiletto mascara and it is the best I have ever used! Fantastic! That shows how much cost has to do with makeup quality or results.

Any makeup that you buy that is of quality is going to be a little pricey. Yes the prices do vary but not a lot and you wont find any cheaper things at Macy's than you will sephora. You need to look at the brands and see which one you like the best and thats where the price will come into play. At Sephora they have many different brands of makup that are all different prices as does Macy's. It wont matter where you go to buy that brand, just what brand you choose. I really like Mac makeup, they sell it at Macy;s. Clinuqe is good too and its cheaper.
They are quite pricey but makeup counters usually give you some gifts! macy's sells Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, Christian Dior, Chanel, Clarins, etc. and yes in some stores they sell the hyped up MAC makeup.

I am currently pregnant with twins. I'll be leaving my full time job in about a month to rest and then stay home with my new babies. I would like to supplement our income as my husband will be making barely enough for us to live on. Any direct experience selling makeup? I've been thinking about becoming an independent sales rep to sell cosmetics and etc. I wanted to know which company (Mark, Avon, Mary Kay, etc) is the best. Do you know if your family, friends, coworkers etc like one over the other? Is anyone you know already selling either of them? Does someone already sell at your job? You need to try and figure out the answers to those questions and that will help you with your decision.
If you sell Avon you can also offer your customers Mark products so I would certainly pick Avon in that respect. Avon has quality products at affordable prices and that's a definate plus in this economy. They also offer many different items so there is something for everyone.
You get a 50% commission in your first 4 consecutive campaigns on Avon products and 20% on items made by other companies. After that its based on sales as seen below. My personal sales average about $400 per campaign which gives me a 40% commission.

Does anyone know what kinds of makeup they sell at the Dollar Store?
I don't care what brand names, I just want to know like what kinds (clear mascara? what colores or eyeshadows? what all do they have there?) Some pics would really help PLEASE!!!Does anyone know what kinds of makeup they sell at the Dollar Store?
The last time that I've been to a dollar store, I saw that they're selling Aziza brand. There was an eyeshadow palette and I also saw this 4-in-1 eyeliner/eyeshadow/lipliner/lipstick. I believe they carry most all colors of mascara, eyeshadows, eyeliner and lip colors. They also carry powder and foundation.
Go to the hair store. They have really good eye shadows. I find that they work better than some of the really expensive ones. They have all kind of colors.

wouldn't it just be much easier to just get off the computer and GO to the store and then you could see for yourself?

If you're talking about stuff like becoming and Avon, Mary Kay, or Mark representative (and the jewelry counterparts) then, no. Child labor laws forbid children from holding jobs like that. If you find recipes and buy supplies, you can make your own makeup and jewelry to sell. A kid's swap meet or a garage sale would be the perfect place to sell them. I am opening up a little store which will be selling herbs, medicine, jewelry, makeup, soaps, lotions, etc. and music.

Do you sell marykay makeup and is it worth my time selling it?
I thought about it. But chose to go with a company called BeautiControl. BC is located in Dallas Tx just as MK, but they are owned by Tupperware Brands and have been around for over 26 years. BC was the first company to color analys clients (warm, cool, winter, fall, etc.) I have used both lines and found that the BC had higher quality products and I got better results from the skin care. The compensation plan was much better and I felt the support was better. Plus BC offers FREE professional training in your area. I found that to be a plus....Of course they give you a car, but the difference is you get to keep it, they don't take it back when your sales go down. It is a red Ford Mustang. I know L'Oreal True Match has blushes that pair with whatever foundation you wear, but as far as eyeshadow or lipstick, you won't really find anything that matches to skin tone because with eyeshadows and lipsticks, there are a lot more factors that go into matching than just whether you're cool toned or warm toned. Why are the ladies that sell MAC makeup so friggin' ugly?
Their makeup looks soooooo unnatural and cakey. They have zits on their face and it's just TOO cakey...it looks so fake and their blush is like not even evenly distributed. The ones that you see must be ugly then. The make-up shouldn't be cakey so long as they are buffing and blending well, the MAC girls I've seen have always looked good.
So long as you have decent skin to begin with and take care of it, zits should not be an issue, even with wearing make-up. Yes they go for unnatural looks because that is what MAC is made for, for stage where you need to wear more make-up than necessary so that it shows up for the entire audience and/or on camera or film. Even men wear make-up (including lipstick) on stage for this reason. Many cheaper make-ups make-ups cannot withstand excess sweating, heat or lighting.
MAC artists are required to use all stages of MAC products and 'overdo' the make-up in order to show the possibilities. Fact is, they can do the make-up however they want, but if they can do the extreme/dramatic types well, then they are skilled in also doing everyday or evening wear.
I was wondering that too! I was at the mall and stopped there to pick up a liner. Most of them are overweight and dress really slutty too. They do not look like they work at a high-end make-up store. The women at the Lancome or Chanel stores look much better and more professional. Personally, I find the sales people at MAC appauling.

It's salons that are most interested in cosmetologists. Plus the chain lines hire trained makeup artists to do special events. And it's been many years since I did any of this so no clue what the current pay is, but unless things have changed it's not especially high paying, although there are fun benefits with free makeup (the amounts vary from line to line). Clearly there's more money if you work in a salon where tipping is allowed. years ago when i worked at the estee lauder counter, i made 6.00/hr plus commission. i think it depends what department store you work for. also you do not need a cosmetology liscence. they will teach about the products. they hold little inservices and occaisionally give you the products, because naturally, they want you to use their brand.

Her family was not rich, but not dirt poor either, and she always had the latest of everything. I don't know what her salary was, but she made more than I did working in the office of our local Winn-Dixie and I made 13.50 and hour.
